Fated for Heaven

Having lived a good and honest life had finally paid off for Hector. He always knew heaven and hell existed despite all the naysayers and nonbelievers.

Keeping faith hadn’t always been easy. Hector’s everyday life had consisted of foreseeing and resisting temptations. It had all been worth it. Walking towards the gates in the distance proved to Hector that it had been.

It was every bit as described. The ground consisted of clouds and overhead a radiant, warm light shone universally.

It was only upon reaching the gates that Hector realized not everything was as it seemed. He had imagined being welcomed in by angels or maybe even God himself. No one greeted him. He had imagined pearly white gates. The only gates here were rusted.

Not wanting to overstep his place on his first day here, Hector waited. In the time it had taken him to reach the gates, his head had been spinning with emotions. Too much to take notice of the heavy silence surrounding him. Shouldn’t there be laughter and happiness overflowing everywhere? The silence was palpable. Unable to contain himself anymore, Hector tried to open the gate himself.

Getting the gate opened proved much harder than he had expected. It was so rusted that it had formed a natural lock. Putting his weight into it, Hector body suddenly lurched forward with the door.

Hector found himself surprised to be floating back to his feet without any action of his own. Glad to be unhurt, Hector took a look around.

It was again just like they had described. Exotic fruit trees and berry bushes grew seemingly out of nowhere, everywhere. Golden fountains and grand architecture littered his sight.

But there was no one. No angels, no people, no God. It was as if everyone had vanished or never existed here at all. Hector grew panicked and ran around trying to find someone, anyone to trigger the surprise inevitably awaiting him.

Long he spent wandering the heavens, always alone. Until he found a sign. Deep in the Lord’s Kingdom lay a chapel. A chapel that could be described as plain compared to the rest here.

It was within this chapel that Hector found that last word of God. Left behind whenever He, himself had gone. It was written on a small note, containing only 4 phrases.

No one ever came

I love them all the same

  I too shall go now

  Sinning is funner anyhow
